My 1st Drive-In Trip To Melaka

26 (Fri nite) – 27 (Sat unearthly hr) Mar

I had already booked the coach in early this mth for a Good Friday retreat with Cat and MZ when 小妹 asked me if I wanted to join them for this trip, which I only confirmed with them 3 days prior to it 😛

I took half day for this trip cos I was told they would depart around 3pm. But who know BIL-A couldn’t make it at the last hr. Anyway, by the time we set off, it was going 9pm.

we had nice roti prata at the coffeeshop before we set off on the road

The last I travelled in thru private car was many many yrs ago when the whole family went in for CNY via the-then-used-to-be-illegal private taxi (霸王车). It is legalised now.

We were all on the look out as the vision on the road was rather dim at night. Ja and Ga took turns to drive. While Ja drove on the safe side, Ga ‘bravely’ drove thru in order to ‘shorten’ the duration of the journey :s

After the 2.5hrs journey, we finally arrived safely at the toll plaza. We decided to find our way to Ju’s estate from there on, based on 小妹 and my memory … though there was a small hiccup at a spilt junction 😛

No! We were not retiring upon reaching, but it was just the start of our trip. And so it’s supper time !!! 😉

Old Village Satay Celup @ Jln Ong Kim Wee was ‘newly’ opened (a yr or so). See! Another “OLD” … how uncreative arh! 😀

The satay celup here was quite ‘clean’ though not much of varieties left, and there weren’t many patrons around when we arrived, maybe becos it was near their closing hr, cos by the time we stepped out around 1am, they started to off their signboard light.

After our late supper, we headed off to chill out at Eleven Bistro Restaurant @ Jonker where we started to drink and played the-stupid-yet-fun card game 😛

He wasn’t trying to swear at anyone, but having no experience as Mi in opening a bottle cap via a lighter, he got cut by the cap edge instead. Hohohoho ~~~

Super late supper at Hajjah Mona Asam Pedas @ 6 Tmn Kota Laksamana before we headed off hm to sleep 😀

nasi lemak with ikan asam pedas — a perfect match! ^__^

They may not be the best, with no fragrance from the nasi lemak (rice), the ikan (fish) however tasted not too bad which was more on the soury side than spicy. There were many patrons even at this late hr — 3am+ liao you see! 😉

27 (Sat morning) – 28 (Sun unearthly hr) Mar

With barely 6hrs of sleep, we were on the go again 😉

My 2nd trip to Donald & Lily behind jonker for their nice nyonya food … as our breakfast. Kinda spicy for breakfast huh ~_~||

While they ordered their coffee and tea, I had my tasty and fragrancy chendol instead 😛

ayam pongteh’s chicken meat was soft but kinda dry
the potatos didn’t seems cooked enough and so tasted quite raw

just took a little from the asam fish to try so can’t comment much 😛

SP and SY joined us at Mahkota Parade.

I left all of them behind with Mag for our planned haircut, but inorder not to waste an hr of waiting at the salon, I decided to return back for the cut during my next trip instead.

And so off we joined the rest at the Restoran S Hin @ Plaza Melaka.

Not knowing what to order, I followed Mag’s choice and ordered a glass of 3-coloured Drink (三色水).

Whao! It was a sweet and fragrancy drink as gula melaka was used instead of sugar. What a nice cooling drink in this hot afternoon 🙂

When the rest had no idea what to order, Ju mentioned that their fried bee hoon, fried hor fun and fried kuey teow were nice and yummy, though she ordered the nice crispy butter sandwiches for herself instead 😀

But I would preferred my Burger! 😉

Few slices of cucumber and onion ring with fried egg atop the chicken fillet wrapped with the charcoal-ed bread. Well …, picture speak a thousand words and so here’s 2 😉

Ja had a lots of coins which he can ‘waste’, and so some of us started to dig out coins from our pockets to contribute to our bill 😛

Next — to the newly opened mega mall of the yr, AEON Bandaraya Melaka Shopping Centre, which also housed a 3 stories mall-in-mall JUSCO that covered more than a quarter of the whole mall.

It was located very near to the Bus Sentral and came with a very big car park infront. It was supposed to open end last yr but was deferred due to a major fatal explosion incident at the mall.

It was a 3 stories mall with many fashion boutiques around, where one stretch of it selling all sort of shoes just next door to each other. I didn’t fancy any while 小妹 bought a pair of crocs for 妈咪. They said it was cheaper here.

Restaurants were all gathered at the ground level. But we went for none as another agenda awaited us 😉

Hawker fare food on the go!

SW and SP were spotted with their orders of cold and hot peanuts tong shui (花生汤).

I think I will bring them to the famous 75 peanuts tang yuan here in spore when they come — they will sure love it! 😉

kuih lobak radish cake they called, which was basically our fried carrot cake (菜头粿) selling @ RM4
i like it black like this … though it will means sweet
their wasn’t too greasy and so, well … I like it, esp when it fried with generous amt of eggs 😉

hakka yam coin (算盘子 abacus beads) @ RM3
yam taste wasn’t strong enough, but it wasn’t too bad as a snack on the move

grilled fish from the same stall @ RM3
if only it was thicker with more fresh. but of cos with RM3 only, we can’t ask for more 😛

They ordered wanton mee (i didn’t try) and assorted yong tau foo from the same eatery as peanuts tong shui.

the yummy fish balls and sotong balls were big and springy

S Kao Fu was here with his family for the tomb sweeping on the early morning next day. And so we gathered awhile before heading off to Pure Bar for a chilling-crazy nite 😉

of cos not here. but the catchy nonsensical wordings simply caught my eyes.
drink beer to save on water … what a way to promote ~_~|||

It was 2am+ by the time we left Pure Bar for another super late supper at Restoran Sri Tasik Utama @ Jln Panjang.

smooth and fragrancy teh tarik for me

and 2 pcs of the crispy pratas for me too 😉

BIL-A had 2 rounds of their fried maggi mee

28 Mar, Sun morning

Finally the day to set off … after our non-stop eating and drinking days(nites) 😮

We had our breakfast at Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball @ Tmn Melaka Raya before we set off.

Ay … kinda early for such filling meal … (who suggested this har?)

my dunno how many trips here …

Driving under broad daylight gave better vision on the road. And zroom … off we went reaching spore in slightly 2hrs+.

P/S: Gosh! I had never drank so much alcoholic drinks in the whole of my life. Just this mth alone broke my records!! @_@

My 1st Drive-In Trip To Melaka

Restaurant Week Singapore : Michelangelo’s

2 weeks ago NL sent us an email regarding “Restaurant Week” promotion. CL and her were so excited about the whole thing and started making plans but din realised the restaurant week only starts on the week after.

NL was too optimistic of having a bigger dining grp for the dinner that she went ahead to book for 6 before asking for confirmations from the rest.

Anyway NL, CL, Ms Pilot (surprised!) and I went ahead with our plan to dine at Michelangelo’s after knowing our way there. It wasn’t too far actually. It was along Chip Bee Gardens, opp the holland village shopping centre.

I had been to Michelangelo’s twice in the past which was quite some yrs ago. Everything now seems so different from then. It has now become an opened concept restaurant with al fresco seatings.

I still remembered we were once told not to power-on our hp cos it will interrupt their wireless order placing pad. But it was a different case now.

And since today we were going for the restaurant week promotion, the menu was a fixed one at S$35++.

warm salmon carpaccio on bed of celeriac, with arugula and orange segments
salmon tasted exceptionally refreshing with the tangy taste from the orange juice

a rack of lamb with garlic prawn accompanied by soft polenta

The meat was very tough … tough for cutting up into pcs to pop into our ‘small’ mouth 😀 The whole meal of this tough ‘work’ caused my right hand to go numb and shaky too, and ended up mentally full but not physically 😛

We provided our ‘ordeal’ feedback to the manager who told us if the meat was fully cooked, it will be even tougher. Likewise if it was slightly cooked instead, it will be too bloody raw. And so served this medium rare one.

Well …

traditional italian tiramisu
very soft and fluffy, with hint of wine taste

prawn bisque

All in all we spent S$192.80, with their additional order of the prawn bisque each. It came with stronger taste than that of the prawn mee soup but in creamy form only, which I dun fancy 😀

We strolled along Chip Bee Gardens and stopped at The Daily Scoop for some innovative ice cream flavours to end the day 😉

Of the many flavours available, we chose black glutinous rice, simply chocolate, durian-durian and macadamia one. Not too bad but not as fragrance as those from Island Creamery.

Long Awaited CDs and Watch!

大妹 was backed from HK yst, and so I took half day leave to ‘redeliver’ 小王子 back to her together with 妈咪.

I was so eager to receive the cds she managed to source for me.

I fell in love with Chet Lam … songs recently 😛 And so sought her help to buy the rest of the albums which I couldn’t find in spore.

all except this wasn’t found in any of the cd shops she went 😦

The other one which I was looking forward to was this watch.

Though she couldn’t get me the melissa one, this wasn’t bad too 😉 Love it! 🙂

小王子 had his gifts too ^__^

Long Awaited CDs and Watch!

Plum Flavoured Chewy Tamarind From Bangkok

CL bought me a cup of these (different packing) some mths ago. But I rarely touched on them, until that time when I was sick feeling nausea, I searched high and low for it but in vain.

Just when I had ‘no need’ for it, I saw it nicely seated behind my many pkts of tibits 😛

And so inorder not to waste on it, I brought it to office and shared with the rest.

I would pop in 1 or 2 whenever I feel bored. JK too. And soon we both became addicted to it.

As the ‘stock’ got lower and we couldn’t find it in bugis village as mentioned by BS. We sought SK’s help, who was going to brave thru the uprising of the riot in BKK then.

And today she returned back to work in one pc 😉 , bringing us not only 1 cup but 3 cups of the plum flavoured chewy tamarind 😀

taste just like those round and flat 山楂 (crataegus)
but this is a soft version one

The happiest person is JK instead … hahaha …

Dept Dinner @ The Line (Again)

We strongly supported this place for choice of our dept dinner. Further ‘threatening’ if we weren’t going this place, I will not join and will return hm to take care of 小王子 😛 He had and will be staying at my place from Fri nite till coming Wed afternoon while 大妹, BIL-T, and her PILs went for their 4D3N HK trip. The elderlys need to rest & relax oh …

Our team arrived earlier and while waiting for the rest, Orh Ju (one of the farewell-er who will be transfer back to hq) treated us drinks at the Lobby Court.

I ordered a chocoloco something which came as a set like this …

whipped cream, skim milk, marshmallow and chocolate powder

mixing the skim milk with the chocolate powder

just a beverage that taste like milo … luke warm only. and milo taste better :-\

rock cookie and very sweet macarons to go with the drinks

The feeling now was so different from the previous merrier dept dinner we had at the same place. Even the food spreads and dessert spreads were different.

No more mini slipper lobsters … no more ice cream tepanyaki.

Replacing with the disappointments, I had a big round of prawns, mini crab claws, and some oysters & mussels too.

And also tried all available flavours served in these mini ice cream tubs.

of the lot, only mango & raspberry ripple sorbet and peach & tamarind sorbet were much popular among us, the rest doesn’t taste too good :S

Here’s some shared dishes …

beef, mutton and chicken satays weren’t too bad. easily run out from the buffet table.
can simply eat them on their own … cos the sauce wasn’t too good anyway.

only tried the lotus leaf glutinous rice. quite tasty and flavoury.

the fish slices had no fishy smell and taste rather fresh too.
carrot cake however was a flop.

as for desserts, the crepe with nutella filling was the best among the other flavours chosen.
the creme caramel puree was a no no …

the usual farewell speech session

Why? All becos of this clip which is old-so-familiar in our office environment 😀

I was having slight migrane then and din really enjoy the whole meal.

I was worried how 妈咪 gonna make 小王子 sleep too. Cos I was wondering how 妈咪 gonna read story book to him … hahaha …

It was already past 10 and 小王子 was still waiting for me before he fell fast asleep in just 15mins. Poor 妈咪 … hahaha … ^____^

Dept Dinner @ The Line (Again)

LENAS @ Bugis Junction

LENAS, a newly opened Italian-American restaurant under MOF group of restaurants, was our choice of dining place tonite — ‘incelebration’ of Old Cow’s bd.

Love their cosy interior, esp those seats by the window.

Our starters … tasted just normal, nothing too special.

caesar salad (S$6.50)

potato wedges (S$5)

parmesan fries (S$6)

calamari frittos (S$7)

Here comes our main courses!

Ms Sotong’s bacon & mushroom baked spag (S$15)
looks cheesy rite? taste cheesy too 😉

EN’s hawaiian pizza (S$14)
basically shared 😛 not too bad. the base had those burned taste 😀

We were 20mins late for their 1-for-1 promotion 😦

SM’s beef bolognese (S$14)

1 pint beer (S$9.90 @ promo rate) ordered by SM too

JK’s spicy agilo olio with shrimps (S$13)

JK’s pompelmo (S$3.50)
sparkling water with grapefruit taste

BS’ grilled chicken with pesto (S$15)
quite a big portion :O

BS’ additional order of mushroom soup (S$6.80)

my seafood marinara (S$16)

SK’s change of sauce base — seafood marinara in creamy tomato (S$18)

Basically the food here was exceptable, though nothing special. Price wise was rather moderate too.

We were ‘supposed’ to ‘shop’ after our dinner, but EN and Ms Sotong left the grp for their 2nd round …

And so we just stroll around bugis junction/iluma and then to bugis village in search for the chewy tamarind, before crossing over to bencoolen street for our desserts at Ice Monster!!!

I had a hard time finding this shop which was tucked in the midst of the bz bugis village until BS showed us the way 😀

I heard it was famous in taiwan (jolin is the ambassador), so I had wanted to try theirs when they opened a branch here some yrs ago.

We chose to sit outside cos it was way too warm and ‘sticky’ inside :S

Not sure was it becos we came a bit too late, cos we were very disappointed with their desserts — kinda rush work on our orders.

durian and fresh mango shave ice with milk & sherbet ($8.50)
durian puree seems too watery. so when the ice melted too fast for us, the mixed taste from both fruits was weird :S

jumbo mixed fruit (kiwis, mangoes, strawberries and mango sorbet) shave ice (S$8)
taste was’t as fantastic as we thought it should be 😦 fruits didn’t tasted fresh enough.

Overall to say, shave ice was rather rough. As compared, Mei Heong Yuen one was still the best I ate so far.

We chanced upon Ben Ten Cafe’s jumbo ice cream at iluma when we bypassed the place earlier on. We shall try that the next time 😉

P/S: If you are wondering wat’s the diff between sorbet and sherbet, this interesting article may give you an answer 😉

In short to say, sorbet = fruit based / sherbet = dairy based 😛

My 1st Grp of Lomo Pix

Finally sent my roll of film taken via my 1st (pink) lomo camera for developing.

This superheadz brand 35mm lomo camera was bought during my HK trip last yr at Times Sq for HK$290. Too sweet to give it a miss then 😉

everything manual … like before 😀

Of the 36pcs per roll film, only 12 of them made it! 😦

They said I should use the ISO400 one if I were to take indoor pix.

Anyway it was my 1st try. More practise to come 😉

no editing … just resize 😀

Shop * Eat * Sing

While waiting for Cat and MZ to arrive, I started browsing into c&k in the hope to get the designs Ju (cousin J) was aiming at. But in vain …

A big 50% discount board opp caught my eyes just as MZ arrived, and soon i ended up grabbing 2 shoes while she grabbed 1 😉

both shoes at original price of S$26.90 each but now with 2nd pc at 50% disc … good deal huh 😉

Ok tonite meet up was to so-call celebrate Cat’s 2 day belated bd 😛

And so we went waraku for a safer choice of meal.

I craved for ramen again and so opted for their Hokkai Ramen (R – S$12.80)
so flavoury taste with small crab claw meat, scallops and kanbu

Cat chose a Pork Ramen (R – S$9.80) one which she slurpped up everything in no time

MZ had her Yakitori Don (R – S$10.80) set instead

We ordered some side dishes to go along with too.

Salmon Sashimi (S$4.80) were too fatty liao …

Enoki Bacon (S$4.80) a bit saltish but still not bad as an overall

Potato Mentai Cheese (S$7.80) was forever oh-so-yummy and full to the taste … (guilty too 😉

We walked back to chinatown after our ‘full-filling’ meal in search for the Ten Dollar Karaoke.

finally we found it amidst the stretch of stalls along smith st. but was told it was fully booked for the nite 😦

And so we switched over to the nearest kbox, instead of partyworld across the road at the other end of the same st, and sang till late hrs.

Shop * Eat * Sing

Am in Wonderland

This nite JJ, BS, Ms Sotong, EN, SK, SK’s fren, and I arranged to watch Alice in Wonderland (3D).

It was my 1st time watching movie in 3D and so I tended to get very excited with the 3D glasses 😀 I’m a spectacles wearer and so it kind of hard for me to wear the 3D glasses on top of mine. But luckily it kind of hitch on well with mine and so I could more or less enjoy the movie with little movements allowed.

Nothing great about being 3D in this fairytales movie. There weren’t much big movements compared to Avatar which I din watch but heard the effect was great.

Anyway all I could say, this was only a so-so movie.

characters in the movie

and here’s the real selves

Before the movie, we grabbed our dinner at the foodcourt and noticed these ceiling decors which I find them interesting 🙂

So now you know wat to do with your unwanted utensils at home other than dumping them away 😉
