RC ‘Annual’ Event – OktoberFest @ Dallas

Last yr I din went for their OktoberFest organised at Magma, but joined in this yr round after knowing so many kakis going. This yr’s OktoberFest was however late cos the next day is November liao @_@

According to those who attended last yr’s one, this yr though location was better, but it lacked of wat an OktoberFest should offer.

The restaurant consisted of 3 levels. Top level was mostly catered for functions/events with balcony looking towards the waterfront, of which our function was. 2nd level was for fine dining while the open-aired ground level till the verandah was where bar drinking was.

The traditional beverage during this German fest was none other than beer. Here we were only offered Stella Artois.

Traditional festive food like pork knuckle and sausages weren’t in sight. Wat we had instead were these, in which they looked more like wat were offered at common hotel buffet spread but with lesser varieties, or simply catering buffet …

clockwise from top:
spicy prawns with mango saisa – sweetness from mango and slight spice from the crunchy prawn combi was good
cold mussel in basil tomato sauce – nothing special actually but at least tasted good
salad station dressing (tomato, cucumber, carrots, capsicum, lettuce) – a common salad dish
smoked salmon with horseradish cream – same as the mussels, nothing special

clockwise from left:
beef steak with pepper sauce – old cow … unchewable …
fusilli tuna in spicy tomato & olive sauce – sweet, spicy and sour, quite an appetitizing dish with such mixture, which we went for 2nd BIG helping 😀
seasonal vegetable – just normal dish … nothing special
baby pork ribs with pineapple barbeque sauce – very tender, taste extremely good with the sweety pineapple bbq sauce … finger licking good =P
root beer chicken – oh! I din know this nice dish was cooked with root beer until I got the menu from my rc coll, cos no taste of root beer at all. and we almost mistaken it for bb pork ribs as they were placed side by side 😛
pan fried snapper with oliver and caper butter sauce – cun remember this taste =P … but dun think it was any bad cos other than the disappointment from the beef steak, the rest were very deliciously good.

cream of mushroom – this was very very yummy!!! it was full of mushroom taste. the whole pot was even empty completely, but luckily they had it refilled, and that was how BIG the 2nd helping came up to =P

And of cos, other than those above, they served fresh fruit platter, array of mini french pastries, assort bread rolls and butter, and pineapple & chicken salad.

their pastries were rich and soft … esp the chocolate cake with melting chocolate on top.

Beverages like soft drink, coffee and tea were free flow. But the cappuccino I ordered was badly presented. So bad so that I din bother to take any pix of it. Just one sip and I push it away. It was totally badly brewed which maybe due to the rush and mass orders from us. My grp was actually waiting for my drink to arrive before we set off hm.

I had been telling the others that this october feast (they called that this yr) was good. But after writing up this entry, I realised that it wasn’t really that fantastic about this event =P Mostly probably ‘blinded’ by the nice atmosphere with good waterfront view and the fun companions around … as always ^___*

Wasabi Tei Again!!!

The trio were back here for … oh I cun even remember how many times. I guess CL and NL worse still cos they were here many times more than me 😛

We were on time this time round and were already 3 grp in the queue. As the diners inside the restaurant were all couples, finding empty seats of 3 were rather difficult. We had to let the gal (alone) behind us overtake us instead since they don’t allow us to wait for extra seat inside the restaurant, which was what I hate of, and it really back me off sometimes when I thought of that.

Luckily the lady boss seemed to be in good mood, or since we were so ‘obedient’, she indirectly signal to the other 2 couples when she told us to wait for those seats.

Other than usual orders of unagi set and chawamushi, we added sashimi and chicken set.

Sashimi Set (S$25)
very freshy sweet and not too fatty … but they dun seems to serve scallops in this set anymore … the crisis had hit them too?

Grilled Chicken Set (S$8)
NL and I shared both the unagi set and chicken set.
though the chicken set served with teriyaki sauce was very tender, it was still only a dry side.
both of us still preferred the unagi set 😛

It really made me think twice of going there again under this kind of unusual situation. Only the unagi and chawamushi will make me return though 🙂

A Visit To Mt E

Finally we got to see S’s new born bb boy. That made me missed the then newly borned 小王子 who is coming 1 next mth.

The rest dun dare to carry the still very fragile bb, but I loved to cuddle them ^____^

And so, as usual, I had to transfer the bb onto their arm one by one while they were seated down. MF’s bb gal was just few mths old and so guess she had enough 😛 AL mah … she scared to have a 3rd one?! hehehe…

A Visit To Mt E

New Chef of the Day

妈咪 could finally rest for this sun, cos the chef for today is T.

He was unfortunately had a great fall as all 5 of us were heading for hm, braving thru the storm rain after buying the necessary stuffs for the dinner.

Embarrassing to say, the daughters of this hsehold could hardly cook. Luckily the son-in-laws were able to, and they seemed to love so 😛

And here’s some updates on 小王子 …

New Chef of the Day

Big Karaoke Session @ Spore Indoor Stadium

I was back here after near a yr later … with 2 other friends … for a concert of another fav. artiste of my ‘era’ 😀

Of the 22 songs sang, only 4 were canto which I wished there were more 😦 But nevertheless, her soft and smooth vocal almost drove me to dreamland.

Surprisingly, she spoke in fluent mandarin most of the time, with english sometimes. The only time when she spoke in cantonese was to her hk fans, recommending them to take hainanese chicken rice.

Her performance stage was simple, but the big animated LCD screen made a great backdrop.

There was no special guest, only her bands, backing vocalists and dancers who were given great exposures. Even her hairstylist came on stage, promoting his newly opened salon at NAC as well.

The whole concert was enjoyable as if in a big karaoke session. Everyone around us were either seen moving towards the rhythm or singing along with her. Esp the time when she simply pointing the mic towards the audience (至少还有你). I could sense the touchness in her as was in me 😛

The concert should have ended at 10.15pm, but with 2 unexpected encores, it finally ended at 11pm after the song, I Swear. Some audiences were seen leaving for the exit after the 1st encore.

1st encored song (4th canto song)

With the experience of neck aching sitting at the side block, I had opted for blocks facing straight to the stage instead.

As the concert ended, we headed off to Kallang Theatre planning for a game of bowling, but the lane was only available after we had nicely settled down at Kallang McDonald, and were ‘stucked’ there for 3hrs 😛

when was the last trip here? 10yrs ago? hmm…

It had really been a long time since I stayed out so late ^____^

So now, who’s concert next? Emil Chow?

Careless me actually deleted this file away assuming it was properly transfered from the thumbdrive to the hard disk, without knowing that both files of the same naming were with different contents. This entry was retyped after few failure attempts of recovering the deleted file 😦 Luckily my memory works better than the machine :-\

Free Treat @ Wah Lok

After viewing the hotel rooms, 4 of us were invited to dine at Wah Lok with recommended dishes from the staffs.

breaded chicken with prawn … chicken meat was tender and crispy while the prawn tasted crunchy … fresh la …

nicely brewed old cucumber soup … best when drink it hot ^__^

asparagus wrapped with maw … crunchy asparagus and nice stock … not too thick or watery …

almost similar to the breaded chicken one but this time round was breaded fish … nice too …

real big pork rib … tough to cut and with super salty char siew sauce … we even gave our feedback to them so u can imagine …

ee fu noodle which look and taste more like hokkien mee to me … another salty dish … dun quite like …

the mangoes were very sweet … I din intend to take pix of the fruits, but the rest ‘forced’ me to complete with that as well @_@

custard tart with icing on top of the crust … cripsy and sweet, but guilty filled with each mouthful 😛

Overall comment for this dinner was … not to my liking. They were far too salty so kinda spoilt appetite. Moreover all the meal sets in their menu weren’t that cheap, so I had higher expectation. I was however looking forward to another treat. Dim sum at the same place, which was highly recommended.

Atmosphere was good though and with friendly staffs. One of my hokkaido trip tour mates was said to work there as a chef, and I happened to see him, though in suit sitting near the entrance bidding goodbye to us, but he dun recognise me 😦

Ma Maison @ The Central

When she was approaching us, I dun dare to ask, cos I wasn’t sure if she was putting on weigh. It wasn’t until K mentioned that her condition doesn’t allow her to travel that I got to know that she was pregrant … for 7mths. Whao! A surprise from another almost-full-term preggie, 2nd time in a yr :-O That shows how long we din meet since last.

K, who met us for the 1st time after we came back from our hokkaido trip early this yr, was shocked to see me ‘slimmed down’ so fast and asked me how I managed to do that. Well, I supposed the winter wear really make me FAT!!! 让我开心一下下 :-\

Choice of venue was to our favour and so I chose Ma Maison @ The Central (just walk to the mall without taking any transport … save $$ yo! :P)

We were earlier than the couple and so we placed our name in the waiting list first before we were given a window-seated table 45mins later.

This branch as compared to the one at Bugis Junction was much smaller … or cramped I would say. The interior was however as cosy. The server for our table was a japanese lady (maybe the lady boss of the restaurant?) who helped us in understanding some japanese term in the menu.

Variety was limited and it really took us a great time to decide wat to eat.

Clam Chowder (S$16.50)

I love this soup bowl set. I guess anything that doesn’t taste nice in the first place would taste otherwise. But of cos this soup was deliciously creamy.

Paella (S$23.80)

This was like a seafood platter. And of cos this was shared by SK and me. Delicious aroma from the fried rice. The seafood however tasted norm.

Omurice Ketchup (S$14.80)

Omurice is a contemporary Japanese dish consisting of an omelet made with fried rice. 蛋包饭 in chinese basically. Choices of brown sauce and tomato sauce given. We were told that there were chuck of chicken meats inside the rice, but we dun seems to find them. Every mouthful was full of ketchup taste. This dish was good overall.

Beef Stroganov Omurice (S$14.80)

The beef meats were obvious in this dish 😛 Another delicious aroma omurice.

Seafood Cream Spag (S$15.90)

This was delicious too. Not too creamy and so was acceptable for both SK and me.

A hotel room key alike for settling of bill … interesting.

We went on to clarke quay for a drink … non-alcoholic one la 😛

I must really salute to the creativeness from TCC. Interesting drinks menu they have.

Azuki Freeze (S$7.20)
CY’s order – azuki is normally known as red bean, so this was simply a blended ang-dao-teng 😛
Chocolate Raspberry Frap (S$7.90)
mine – the liqueur in the drink might has enhanced the taste of the coco and the soft sourness from the raspberry syrup.

Berry Oreo (S$7.50)
SK’s order – almost similar to mine except without the liqueur involved.

Azuki Coffee Cooler (S$7.80)
K’s order – din try this but was told that it tasted almost similar to CY one but with coffee taste.

I dun like the white contour seats inside the cafe … it made us kept sliding down :-\

So I guess the next time we meet we will be able to see little CY ^___^

Shake Head = Yes / No

Though from the corner of my eyes only, I could still ‘see’ this funnie sight …

小黑 A came over to look for 小黑 B, asking him regarding a doc or dunno wat on his desk …

小黑 A : u using it?
小黑 B only shaked his head …

小黑 A : u want to use it?
小黑 B shaked his head once more … (same pattern)

小黑 A : can I use it?
小黑 B paused for a while … and shaked his head … (same pattern again)

And then ………………

小黑 A took it away …

小黑 B’s eyes were focusing on his laptop screen, with no words coming out from his mouth ALL THE WHILE … even when he paused during the ‘conversation’.

So it’s a “yes” AND “no” for all 黑’s shaking heads?! @_@

  「金廁所」傳奇 三百元起家

I wondered if you have the same feeling as I do … after reading “白手興家”, “猝死在家中睡房”, “結果計畫未完成就身故” … kinda sad …
